It’s Spring and I’m ready for a new hobby. I’ve never had what you’d call a green thumb. In fact, I’ve never tried much to grow anything. But with my son the other day in the hardware store, we passed the gardening section. There was this thing they called a potting cart. We looked at how it was put together and realized it would be super simple to modify it so that it would be exactly the right height for my wheelchair. So we bought it on the spot.

Now I’m having a blast cruising around my patio in my wheelchair and planting some herbs and vegetables. I’ve got my tomatoes started. I’m thinking about some cucumbers. Hopefully, I won’t kill them all.

I hope someone can help me out. The other day I was visiting my friend who uses a Jazzy power wheelchair. I noticed one of the wheels was damaged. He didn’t remember how it had happened, but the wheel was all misshapen. He can still get around but the wheel is uneven and creates a bumpy, slow ride now.

Does anyone know if that’s something we would call the manufacturer to get fixed? Or are there power wheelchair repair shops like a local garage? Is changing out the wheel on a power wheelchair something I could do myself (I am pretty mechanical) or does it need the expertise of an expert?

So I live in kind of a small town. People here are great and I love my neighbors. In fact, they are so friendly and are always checking on me because I live alone. I like to take my power wheelchair around the neighborhood in the evenings. Everyone say “hi” and asks me how I’m doing.

But the other day, I had a question about my utility bill. I had to go into the city offices. Of course, the building is compliant with wheelchair ramps and automatic doors. But when I went up to the counter to ask my question, the counter was really high and deep. This meant that it was incredibly awkward to try to have a conversation with the lady. She tried to show me a few things on her computer screen and it was simply impossible for me to stretch my neck up to see it. She was so nice and I knew she felt bad. But how hard would it be to have one counter that was set up to serve citizens in wheelchairs?
